These 19thC beds
ooze charm and character. Made for simple peasant
rural homesteads, they were practical as well as pretty.
The high ends kept out the drafty nights and small
sizes meant the occupiers kept warm at night. A 3'6"
wide would then have served for two.
This bed has been made in solid cherry and has carved
detail in the front corners of grapes on the vine.
So it would have been made for a fairly wealthy country
farm with a connection to wine or vineyards, the poorer
homes could only afford uncarved chestnut or pine
beds.
For the modern home these beds are a perfect bit of
fun for a childs or guests bedroom.
