It's worth mentioning that most French tables are about
83cm wide. UK clients often ask for 3'6" - 4' wide
tables. They were never made. You cannot seat any more at
a 110cm table than at an 83cm wide table. Table design at
this width allows long tables to be installed without unnecessary
width dragging the kitchen walls in. They are meant to seem
elegant. The tops are hard and saturated in wax by now and
are impervious to just about anything - nothing like a modern
waxed pine table (which are as much use as a chocolate teapot).
They have been well used by generations of French families
- you need not be worried to continue to do the same.
People are surprisingly fanatic about getting the right
table and we always have a list of very specific wants to
fill. Good tables are not easy to find and are relatively
expensive compared with other more complicated furniture.
If you half know what you might want, you might want to
get in touch
to at least have first refusal.
