Scrubbed mid 19thC
pine farmhouse table.
Made of the best, most resinous scots' pine around
1850. In Brittany (this table is from Bain de Bretagne)
such tables rarely survive the warm damp conditions
of a farm kitchen on an even damper clay floor. This
one has probably had several sets of new heels spliced
on over the last 150 years to keep its height up.
With that 150 years of use and scrubbing the wood
had taken on an amazing near riven look. A 3D quality
normally found in driftwood. At 2.50m long it will
seat 10 even excluding end placing mostly taken up
by a huge drawer at each end.
Now restored, it will last for near eternity in modern
centrally heated houses. After seeing through the
production of miles of breton boudin sausages, a hundred
weight of dry cured pork and enough needed bread to
sustain Napoleons Peninsular army, there is little
to fear from letting children or diner party guests
free on it.
It will continue to beautifully outlive us all.
