Early 19th Century Breton marriage armoire. Wonderfully naive folk carving. Châteaulin, West Brittany, dated 1809, also a name which we cannot decipher! Suggestions on a postcard.
4 apotropaic symbols in the panels across the bottom. These protective marks, sometimes called witch marks, warded off unwanted evil spirits, demons, witches and fairy folk!
