18th century Louis XVI chiffonier writing table.
A rare example c1780's in tulip wood veneer with hot air balloon marquetry detail.
Likely commissioned to celebrate the first manned balloon flight by the Montgolfier brothers, Paris, 1783.
The small desk would have sat next to a fireside armchair and moved from room to room as required.
Two small drawers, pull out writing slide and pull up fire screen.
These screens protected the face from the heat of the fire. Men and women of the time wore wax based makeup that would melt if they sat too close to the fire.
Good original colour and patina, the silk a likely 19th century replacement.
