Oak Reading Room table from Soligny-la-Trappe Abbey, Normandy
The Abbey was founded by the Cistercians in the 12thC but was completely rebuilt in the late 19th in Neo Gothic manner. Today the community of  monks follow the Order of St Benoit. The table was originally one of a pair from the reading (study) room and exquisitely fashioned from blonde, faultless oak. Its been used, valued and twice lightly restored. It probably looks better now than the day it was delivered. In France such tables are known as Tables de Communaute' and invariably well made and maintained and generous enough to allow many monks or nuns to dine or work. Its been grit  scrubbed and bleached and is as light an oak table as its possible to find. Fabulous.
